Modern interiors are all about creating as much space as possible. Go to wash your hands at any fancy restaurant or hotel and you’ll be met with a sink that seems to hover off the wall. There’s nothing underneath many except for possibly a toilet brush. It didn’t used to be like this though. From the late 18th to early 20th century vanities were all the rage in bathrooms. We think its time everyone started getting a little vain. We found some great looking vanities to show you.
This first one is nothing but pure style. Smooth finish on the surface and great detail on the panelling (notice how it matches the mirror) show off the glossy finish all around. We like the accented legs of the vanity. They’re a nice throwback to home furnishings of the early 196os.
You can see from the one above just how much a distinct colour can influence how the space is defined. The purple here is meant to draw eyes and make the sink area the main focus of the room.
Don’t think that you have to go out looking for a century old vanity to give your bathroom a vintage feel. You can cheat and buy something new like this one from Ikea. Its a simple white piece that draws upon its older roots thanks to that little ledge around the back of the bowl. It’s quite an old and rarely used touch that smacks of late 19th century design.
If you are on a budget and still looking for great furniture, buy second hand. It’s cheap and you’d be surprised with the amount of chairs that look good, which have been used and refurbished.
